What is Deep Tissue Massage?

Deep Tissue Massage is a massage therapy technique which focuses on realigning the deepest muscle tissue and connective tissue layers. This includes the tendons and fascia layers, or the protective areas which surround your joints, muscles, and bones. It is used to concentrate on specific areas to help relieve tension and pain.

How Is this Technique Performed?

Deep Tissue Massage is also very similar to the Swedish massage in terms of similar strokes. However, it requires a slower movement and deeper pressure which are concentrated on specific areas to relieve tension and pain. The process requires a variety of different hand positions and strokes while applying pressure on the area (tendons, muscles, ligaments) needing attention.

The deep pressure and specific strokes used in Deep Tissue Massage work by physically breaking down and releasing the toxins created from lack of oxygen and/or movement, and improves both the flow of blood and oxygen to problem areas. This in turn restores your normal movement and relieves pain.

Deep Tissue Massage requires the use of massage oil and directed deep pressure. It can cause pain or soreness during the procedure and usually there is some stiffness or pain after the massage is over. However, this typically subsides within a day or two.
